With the assistance and direction of CEDA’s Hillary Tweed, the City of Murdock, MN, population 306, has been awarded a Blandin Foundation Rural Leadership Boost Grant in the amount of $50,000. The dollars will be utilized to retain CEDA services for a one day a week contract in Murdock and the remaining funds will be used to seed projects in the community! Hillary just moved the needle for this small community! Congrats Hillary!

Jackson Business Challenge
Jackson Business Development Committee in conjunction with The City of Jackson, Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce, JEDC and Economic Development Office is offering an incentive package worth up to $20,000 for a winning business that will open in downtown Jackson by September 1, 2023.
Overview:
The Jackson Business Challenge is an entrepreneurial start-up competition for Jackson’s current business district. Business concepts eligible for the competition are (1) new businesses; (2) a second or third satellite business from an existing location in another town; or (3) a significant expansion of current business that includes an additional business concept.
Goals:
- To initiate innovative recruitment of businesses that will enhance the business mix in downtown Jackson
- Provide entrepreneurial businesses a head-start during the first year of business operation .
- To strengthen the economy and the downtown environment of Jackson by attracting unique and specialty businesses.
- To transform empty business spaces into more attractive and beneficial locations
- To build a “buzz” and promote Jackson as a great place to start a business
- To display the community’s commitment to downtown Jackson; to take ownership in and demonstrate pride in downtown Jackson.

- Phase 2 – Business Plans Drafts Due: January 27, 2023 (Fri)

Rural Leadership Boost grant for $80,000 in Spring Grove
CEDA’s Courtney helped Spring Grove in receiving a Rural Leadership Boost grant for $80,000!
Blue Earth EDA/REV/BE Welcoming was recently awarded a $20,000 Blandin Grant to further the Welcoming work in our community.
Blue Earth was also awarded the Blandin Rural Leadership Boost Grant for $20,000 to use to further the B.E. Welcoming initiative! The funds will be used to offer First Responders and other City personnel beginner Spanish classes to help them communicate better during emergencies and to ease the burden of translation on children. It will be used to translate community materials like the Community Ed booklet so that all parents understand and are informed of the opportunities available. These are just 2 ways we will use this money. They are in the last weeks of planning a Day of the Dead festival (cultural experience) and they will use this money to plan future Cultural experiences for Blue Earth!
